Fundraising
Mini Bus
Back in April 2018 a local business, Bartec Auto ID Ltd donated a 17 seater Minibus. This has allowed Local Mencap Barnsley to take their members out on day trips, and also on weekends away to Calvert Trust which is a specialist outdoor activity centre for people with disabilities. The mini bus has enabled us to take more members on excursions with mild learning difficulties who are fully ambulant, to those with profound and complex needs. This has allowed them to enjoy the benefits of outdoor activities in a safe, accessible, yet challenging environment.
Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge 2019
A team from Bartec, Local Mencap Barnsley and Infinite Fire and Security completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks raise fund for Local Mencap Barnsley. They successfully raised £5,948.25. Thank you to everyone who supported and sponsored the team. The money raised will be going towards creating an interactive sensory garden experience at Compass House, the home of Local Mencap Barnsley. We want to create spaces packed full of vibrant colours, scents and sounds to stimulate the members’ senses. Technology is planned alongside lighting, wind chimes, water features and musical instruments.
Great North Run 2019
A team from Local Mencap Barnsley and some friends from a local running club completed the Great North Run, half marathon in aid of Local Mencap Barnsley. A grand total of £5,245.25 was raised. Thanks again to everyone who supported us. The money raised was used to purchase a community public access defibrillator installed at our premises that can be used by everyone in the local community in the event of a medical emergency.
